IPF Photographer Of The Year 2019
I am delighted to announce I have just been crowned IPF Photographer of the Year 2019!!!
This is a dream come through. I have tried to win this title for the last 5 years but never in a million years thought I would do it so quickly. I fully expected it would be something that would happen years down the road. This competition is open to all photographers across the Island of Ireland via the Irish Photographic Federation of camera clubs. It is a coveted award with the highest levels of competition. This year there were 1,400 images submitted for consideration under 3 separate judges.
The Winning Image
This image actually sat part processed on my hard drive for about 2 years. It was created on a stormy afternoon at Castlerock Beach on the Irish North Coast. Anybody who knows this beach will be familiar with the long jetty that runs out to sea at the end of the beach. On a rough day with winds from the north, the large incoming waves break across the front of the pier and then surge down along the sides.
I had a good day overall at the awards. There are a total of 6 categories to compete for. The winner of each category goes forward for consideration for “Photographer of the Year” with the winning image being crowned best in show. I won gold in two categories and a bronze & silver in another. All in all, I took away more than my fair share of awards this year.
I can’t finish this blog without firstly thanking my wife who supports me the 100% of the way. She gives me the time at weekends to get out and make these images while she holds the fort at home with our beautiful children. Thank you also to my wonderful club colleagues in Dundalk Photographic Society who inspire, support and challenge me every week. Without having to raise my game to compete against you guys, this image wold have stayed on the drive. Thank you to my constant photo buddy David, who shares the long drives and some good laughs. And finally, thank you to everyone who contacted me with congratulations and kind comments.
